Hello Shadows of the Past fans,

I’m Brandon Elder, the project lead for Shadows of the Past, and I’m excited to share our very first blog post with you!

First, I want to extend our heartfelt apologies for the silence over the past few months. As a non-commercial fan-made project, we’re all juggling this alongside other commitments, which means updates will be slower for a little while longer. However, I want to assure you that we’re actively working on the project, and I’m thrilled to share some of the new models and artwork that our talented team has created!

Helm’s Deep is almost complete!

Gabe has been diligently crafting Helm’s Deep and is nearing completion. Our goal is to remain as true to the movie’s depiction as possible, which naturally takes time, but we promise it will be worth the wait. We believe Helm’s Deep deserves a dedicated video showcasing its grandeur when it’s finished, and we hope to create that in the near future. In the meantime, here’s a sneak peek of the impressive fortress!

Herugrim

Justin has completed the formidable Herugrim model, the sword that will be wielded by the mighty King Théoden.

What is a Dwarf without his axe?

Viktor has put the finishing touches on Gimli’s axe, and it’s now making its way to his doorstep!

Re-texture work on Uruk-Hai weapons

We’ve decided to revamp the textures on all the Uruk-Hai weapons to better align with the movie’s aesthetics.

Mordor Catapult

Alessandro has been hard at work, tackling every task with impressive skill! He’s successfully completed the Mordor catapult, and we’re excited to share that each faction will have its own unique siege equipment.

Change to factions

The team and I have decided that it makes the most sense not to have Dol Amroth as a separate faction, since it is part of Gondor. Instead of removing Dol Amroth entirely, it will now be an unlockable skin for Gondorian warriors once you reach a certain rank.
